For an early train, leaving Tienen by car is often simpler than the Leuven connection, especially with luggage.
The E40 into Brussels and the low-emission zone
The E40 between Leuven and the Brussels ring is the weak point of this trip: between 07:00 and 09:00 it easily adds half an hour. So we leave earlier, or swing around via the E314 and the northern ring depending on the hour.

Allow 10 min for 10 km off peak. The driver checks the traffic before leaving Tienen and adapts the route; the agreed amount does not move.
