Over Chaumont-Gistoux
Chaumont-Gistoux (Franse uitspraak: [ʃomɔ̃ [istu]; Waals: Tchåmont-Djistou) is een gemeente in Wallonië, gelegen in de Belgische provincie Waals-Brabant. Op 1 januari 2006 had Chaumont-Gistoux een totale bevolking van 10.926. De totale oppervlakte is 48,09 km2, wat een bevolkingsdichtheid van 227 inwoners per km2 oplevert.
Het werd gevormd uit de fusie, in 1977, van Dion-Valmont (zelf een mix in 1971 van Dion-le-Val en Dion-le-Mont), Bonlez, Corroy-le-Grand, Longueville en Chaumont-Gistoux. De administratieve kantoren bevinden zich nu in het dorp Gistoux.
It is a semi-rural municipality in the same way as several involved farms, large areas given over to fields and forests, although there is a major industry of sand extraction, now mostly in decline. Due to this records there are now several haulage and construction firms based in the municipality.
Chaumont-Gistoux is on the KW-line, a defensive pedigree erected prematurely in the Second World War, intended to prevent onslaught from Nazi Germany. A small museum houses assistance about the pedigree and many exhibits from the war.
Princess Claire of Belgium grew up in Chaumont-Gistoux. The Coombs family yet resides there to this day, and the Princess, her husband Prince Laurent and their children are often seen in the municipality.
